April 2009 during an awards ceremony the President of Middlesex Conservation Club, Sharon Pagel, was inducted into the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame!
An article was written by Len Lisenbee for Messenger Post Newspapers (Daily Messenger) and ran March 8, 2009. In part of the article here is what he had to say:
"The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame is the ultimate destination to strive for for all true sportsmen. The organization recognizes those who have dedicated their lives to the outdoor world that surrounds us all. Just to be nominated for possible induction is a compliment, and being found worthy of induction is a true honor. Only a few are afforded membership each year.
We are fortunate in that we have two of the nine inductees for this year living in our local area. Sharon Pagel lives in Potter. She has been a lifelong lover of the outdoors and has been a longtime leader in sportsmen's organizations and youth activities. She was a leader in the Corning fish and game club's youth programs, working with the kids in archery, fishing and pheasant hunts. She has worked with the Cub Scouts Adventure Camps and is a longtime hunter safety instructor in both gun and bow instruction.
She also is the current president of the Middlesex Conservation Club.
She is a very successful bowhunter herself and spends an enormous amount of time working with the physically challenged, teaching them that there is little they cannot do in the outdoors. These two facts become even more meaningful when you understand that Sharon is blind. She is able to bow hunt because of a specially constructed bow sight and with her husband standing behind her to be her "eyes."
Congratulations Sharon."
