We are putting together a history of the Club, when, where and the names of the people
who started it and helped along the way to the current time. Please read what
we have so far and if you can add anything please let us know!
Like any ongoing project, we will continue to add and change as information is received.

To raise money, clambakes and trap shoots were held at the Elwell Farm on Elwell
Road. The hand trap was set up on the adjacent property owned by Walt Spikes.
The present location of the Club is on land that had been purchased in 1930 by Arther
Lafler at a tax sale. The property was donated to the Club for $1.00 in 1947
by Ray Lafler, Edgar Lafler, Ethoel Clawson, Alice Eckert, Edith Wilson and Mabel
Burth.
The flagpole at the front of the Club is in honor of Ray "Toad" Lafler. Henry
McDougal was Club President at that time. The Main building was started in
the mid-forties, with the construction overseen by Glenn Coons. The porch
was added later.
In 1947 the Club was Incorporated.
From 1954 to 1964 Clambakes were once more held. With attendence about 400-500
people, the cost for the clambakes was $5.00 per head.
In 1988 the Club was granted tax exempt status based on work done by Bob Rugaber.
That is what we have so far...
Rudy Elwell has been working on this and he is looking for early minutes books and
any help. |
